As I've always said, the key to Sko-Die's success is its unparalleled team of people. In this edition of the Sko-Die e-newsletter, we will introduce you to three vital members of the Sko-Die team, our Quality Assurance Manager, Sandra Peterson, our Controller, Travis Taplin, and our Senior Manufacturing Engineer, Tony Cosentino. Their experience and expertise, along with the skills and talents of the other talented employees at Sko-Die, combine to establish what makes our company so very unique in the industry.

Sandra Peterson - Quality Assurance Manager

Sandra Peterson

Sandra Peterson joined the Sko-Die team in late 2017 as a seasoned veteran of the stamping and electrical steel industry. She began in the role of Manufacturing Engineering Manager and then pivoted to the role of Quality Assurance Manager in early 2018. Sandra brought with her over 25 years of lamination industry experience and a wealth of proven success as a Manufacturing Engineer and Quality Manager. In her initial role with Sko-Die, Sandra took on the challenge of directing Sko-Dies efforts to update our ISO certification to the 9001-2015 standard, which Sko-Die achieved in 2018.

Sandra grew up in the shadows of Sko-Die in the Chicago suburbs and graduated from University of Illinois with a B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering. She began her professional career in the quality arena with a large independent lamination stamping company. In that role, she advanced from quality engineer through the ranks to earn the position of Quality Manager. She managed a state-of-the-art material testing lab, developed and managed material testing, process engineering best anneal practices for a wide array of electrical grade materials. She headed up the dimensional inspection process and quality systems as well. Sandra developed test methods and specifications while sitting on the ASTM committee for electrical steels and earned certification through ASQ as a quality engineer and quality auditor and completed her Six Sigma Green Belt. Her unique set of skills in both quality management, manufacturing processes and electrical steel products made her a great addition to the Sko-Die team.

Sko-Die is an organization whose leadership and reputation I have always had great respect for in the unique niche that they occupy within the stamping industry. Having joined the team, I am enjoying getting to know the Sko-Die products and customer base. I am excited to be a part of helping this the organization to meet the myriad of opportunities and challenges that our valued customers present to us."

Travis Taplin - Controller

Travis Taplin has been with Sko-Die since mid-2018 as the company's Controller. In his current role, he focuses upon continuous process improvements and maximizing efficiencies throughout the company. During his time with the company, he has enacted cost reduction initiatives, reorganized financial statements, implemented a physical inventory process and helped Sko-Die stay consistent with industry best practices.

Travis joined Sko-Die with over 25 years of experience in accounting and finance in manufacturing firms doing business in a variety of industries including aerospace, automotive, precision machining, plastic injection molding, and printing. He has also proudly served in the United States Navy.

His ability to analyze financial statements and data to make decisions that drive process improvements has made Travis a valuable member of the Sko-Die team. He is a true people person and enjoys working with others, passing along his knowledge and getting others involved in the process.

Travis enjoys the family atmosphere at Sko-Die and being part of a great team that knows each other and openly communicates with one another. He feels the open-door policy with senior management fosters a positive work environment that is truly unique in the industry.

Travis is the father of twin girls and a son, and enjoys spending time with his family, boating, fishing and exploring the outdoors.

Tony Cosentino - Senior Manufacturing Engineer

Tony Cosentino joined the Sko-Die team in late 2018 as its Senior Manufacturing Engineer. During that time, he has been immersed in tooling project management, including new tools and rebuild projects, new equipment specifications and installations, overall plan layout to improve material flow and increase productivity, lean initiatives, and continuous improvement.

As a degreed mechanical engineer with over 20 years of experience working in manufacturing within the steel and automotive industries as engineering manager and in research and development, Tony has gained extensive experience understanding processes and how to improve them.

Tony is detail-oriented and takes a hands-on approach to troubleshooting and problem solving. His lean manufacturing experience is a true asset to Sko-Die, and he will help drive ongoing facility layout optimization of machinery and operators.

Tony enjoys the one-on-one conversations with others in the company, and that good ideas are openly welcomed by senior management. He feels that the employees and their hard work are appreciated by the company, and there is a true family atmosphere at Sko-Die.

Tony is the father of 3 boys, is involved in their sports and activities, and enjoys spending time with his family. He is also interested in finance and enjoys researching companies and exploring what makes them successful.
